Every employee is issued with an inexpensive proximity card. Each card has a unique built-in code, and so identifies each employee.
To clock in or out, or to gain access to secure areas, the employee waves the card in front of an unobtrusive reader unit, which will then log the event and/or open a door lock if the card holder has been granted access at that time.
All events from every card reader are gathered by a central standard PC based workstation or Server, which may be situated anywhere on the Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN).
