Ringdales Ethernet Proxy Router manages installations where a large number of IP devices (PCs) have to be connected to a LAN for access to the Internet or Intranet.
It enables up to 252 devices to share one IP address, at the same time restricting access to the network. This ensures complete network security, making it an ideal application for organisations such as schools, hospitals, hotels and university campuses.
Ringdale's Proxy Router has two functions. Firstly it has the ability to route IP, and secondly it acts as a DHCP Server. This way the device can have one fixed IP address which goes to the backbone LAN. The local side is where the IP address is translated into many DHCP server allocated addresses, and vice versa. This allows one class-C network to be used for more than 16,000 users. Ringdale's Proxy Router isolates the local connection from the backbone connection allowing many devices with DHCP servers to be attached to one backbone, thus extending the number of IP users on a single class-C network.
The device can be managed using PeripheralVision network management software or Telnet for setup of the address range, Sub-Net Mask and other parameters of the DHCP server.
Ringdale's DHCP Server and Proxy Router is operating system independant and will work in Windows, Unix, Linux and Apple environments.
The device has a pin-hole feature, allowing one HTTP and one FTP server on the DHCP side to be assigned to the public IP address of the backbone IP of the device, allowing one website behind the firewall to be published on the Internet.
Return of Investment
When used as a "Classroom" DHCP Server and Proxy Router, this device will produce a fast return on investment.
Example:
When used as a replacement of an existing PC based DHCP Server. downtime in the classroom as a result of the PC based server's availability can be totally eliminated resulting in immediate benefits:
- less disruption
- less stress related to uncertainty whether the classroom network
will be available or not.
The Ringdale DHCP Server and Proxy Router device does not require any anti-virus software and therefore requires no maintenance. Assuming just three hours of maintenance a year at US$50 and anti-virus updates for US$50 for a PC based server will completely pay for a Ringdale DHCP Server and Proxy Router.
