Ringdale / NLynx LM-6488 Thin Twinax Terminal
For the first time in the history of IBM midrange systems, there is now a cost-effective product that truly bridges the gap between the proprietary IBM Twinax wiring scheme and standard Ethernet LAN wiring.
The LM-6488 combines the comprehensive functionality of a highly respected yet legacy Twinax terminal with the flexibility & migratability of a 21st century hardware and software platform.
The LM-6488 is an ideal choice for today’s discerning IBM Twinax user who has an eye on the possibility of future expansion or migration to an Ethernet topology. Both Twinax and Ethernet capability are built into the LM-6488 as standard features. Today’s need for Twinax connectivity is blended into a hardware platform that also includes an Ethernet port & software for accessing the multitude of modern-day resources.
The LM-6488 Thin Twinax Terminal is an innovative NLynx family product from Ringdale Inc.
In its basic configuration, the LM-6488 simply connects to an IBM System-36, AS/36, AS/400 or i5/iSeries server via IBM-compatible twinax cabling, emulating an IBM 3179, 3197 or 3477 terminal. To meet the demanding printing needs of IBM users the LM-6488 also provides support for “Host Print Transform” for impact printers and PCL for Laser and InkJet printers.
In its most comprehensive configuration the LM-6488 provides access to both legacy applications (IBM Twinax) and Internet / Intranet applications when attached to a LAN via standard Ethernet cabling and TCP/IP. Regardless of the wiring topology, it can support multiple sessions (up to 7) when connected to an IBM host, while simultaneously accessing other resources via Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, Email, TN5250e, and many more. And if the user environment so dictates, the functionality and settings of the LM-6488 can be locked-down and protected by a Supervisory Password, thereby preventing any unauthorized changes.
High reliability and the ability for this unit to be centrally managed make the LM-6488 the ideal desktop device.
The hardware includes a Twinax port, a 10/100 Ethernet port, a parallel port, a serial port, two PS/2 ports, four USB ports & two 16-bit Stereo 44.1KHz Audio Outputs.
By utilizing both the Twinax and Ethernet
connections, the LM-6488 can even be configured as a remote Twinax console to the IBM server.
Price includes a mouse but excludes a keyboard. Keyboards sold and priced separately, chose from traditional IBM-compatible 122-key variants or standard 104-key PC layouts - all available in either beige or black casework.
