Satellite - TimeServer

Always provides accurate time signal on the network from GPS satellites

Ringdale has introduced a unique product for companies requiring accurate time signals. TimeServer is a 10/100baseT network product that will supply accurate time signals to any IP device connected to the network capable of using standard timeserver information.

Having an independent timeserver is more accurate and reliable than using a distant timeserver located on the Internet. It ensures services remain synchronized even when the Internet is down; especially important to those companies with valuable, time-sensitive, network-based access control systems, time and attendance alarm systems or process control systems.

How it works

The TimeServer uses the worldwide navigational satellite system to derive accurate Universal Coordinates for date and time. Information is then made available to the network via standard User Datagram Protocol and Network Time Protocol packets.

After a location has been chosen for the TimeServer (positioning the GPS receiver/antenna to receive satellite signals), it should be connected to the main network. It will work if connected to a 10baseT, 100baseT or auto-switching network hub or repeater.

Next, set up its’ network IP address (must be a valid IP address) on the local network. Because the unit is a dedicated timeserver and will never originate packets or respond to packets not specifically addressed to it, the unit will function perfectly without setting either the subnet mask or the gateway address.

It is recommended all workstations and servers on the network are set up to run network time protocol timeserver clients. This will ensure file date and timestamps are always 100 percent accurate; very important if files are shared across a network or from a fileserver as it allows both the system and the operator to know with certainty which version of a file or database is most current.

Occassionally, files may be accessed and updated from different clients within seconds of each other. Inaccurate system clocks make it impossible to synchronize and maintain this type of access.
