LED Lighting Fluorescent Tube Replacements
The LCD panel shown on the left uses a conventional 2 watt CFL backlight consuming 2.5 watts including its high voltage electronics on a Sharp 6.3 inch STN display while the panel on the right shows the same type display using a Ringdale LED Backlight replacement consuming 0.85 watts. Both panels use the same diffuser. The replacement LED tube shows better consistency and equal light distribution also on the edges of the display. While the CFL shows darker ends an effect that increases with hours of use the LED display will stay consisten throughout its lifetime.
The CFL has an off-white with a slightly higher red content while the Ringdale LED has an off-white with a slightly higher blue content. At a slightly higher cost, Ringdale can provide a balanced white backlight for applications where true color is required.
